  Warning Advisory Watch
Storm Sustained surface winds not associated with a tropical cyclone between 48 knots (55 mph) and 63 knots (73 mph) are occurring or predicted.
Tsunami The highest level of tsunami alert. Warnings are issued due to the imminent threat of a tsunami from a large undersea earthquake or following confirmation that a potentially destructive tsunami is underway. They may initially be based only on seismic information as a means of providing the earliest possible alert. Widespread, dangerous coastal flooding accompanied by powerful currents is possible and may continue for several hours after arrival of the initial wave. A tsunami is a series of long-period waves caused by a disturbance (i.e. earthquake, underwater volcanic eruptions or landslide) that displaces massive amounts of water. Tsunamis travel at very high speeds, sometimes in excess of 400 knots. While tsunamis may only cause a gentle rise and fall in the water in the open ocean they grow steeper as they approach the shoreline and have been known to reach heights over 100 feet.

Warning Safety Tips: Local officials may evacuate low-lying coastal areas and reposition ships to deep waters if there is time to do so safely.
